Our Approach

Bodywork That Meets You Where You Are

Massage therapy is more than relaxation. As a regulated health profession in British Columbia, registered massage therapy treats injury, restores function, and supports long term wellbeing. Our therapists at Primera Therapy bring clinical training, time, and quiet attention to every appointment, so you can focus on what matters most: feeling better in your body.

All of our therapists are registered with the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC), ensuring every treatment meets the highest clinical standards. Massage therapy claims through most extended health insurance plans require an RMT, and we make that paperwork simple with direct billing.

Four Pathways to Recovery

01 · Registered Massage Therapy

Registered Massage Therapy

Performed by therapists registered with the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC, registered massage therapy assesses and treats the soft tissues and joints of the body. Sessions blend Swedish and deep tissue work with trigger point release, myofascial techniques, and gentle joint mobilization, calibrated to your goals.

  • Best for chronic neck and back pain, sciatica, postural strain, repetitive strain injury
  • Techniques Swedish, deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point therapy
  • Outcomes reduced pain, restored range of motion, improved circulation, calmer nervous system
  • Aftercare personalized stretches and home guidance after every visit

02 · Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage

Smooth heated basalt stones, warmed to a therapist controlled temperature, are placed along the body and used to glide through tight tissue. The radiant warmth invites deep muscular release, allowing the therapist to work meaningfully without heavy pressure. The result is a treatment that feels both indulgent and clinically effective.

  • Best for chronic muscle tension, stress, insomnia, cold sensitivity
  • Experience warmth penetrates muscle layers, encouraging stillness in the nervous system
  • Outcomes eased tension, calmer mind, better sleep, improved joint mobility
  • Note not recommended during pregnancy or with certain conditions, please ask
Session 60 min Stones heat controlled basalt Pairs well with Swedish massage

03 · Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

A specialized, exceptionally light massage developed by Dr. Emil Vodder, manual lymphatic drainage uses rhythmic skin stretching to encourage the movement of lymph through the body. Unlike conventional massage, this is a precise, gentle technique focused on swelling, congestion, immune support, and post surgical recovery.

  • Best for post surgical swelling, lymphedema management, sinus congestion, puffiness
  • Technique light, slow, rhythmic strokes with diaphragmatic breathing
  • Outcomes reduced swelling, lighter limbs, improved skin tone, calmer body
  • Often used after cosmetic procedures, breast surgery, joint replacement
Session 60 min Pressure very light Series recommended for best results

Common Questions

Helpful to Know

Do I need a doctor’s referral for massage therapy?

For most extended health plans and ICBC’s first 12 sessions, no referral is required. Some workplace plans may ask for one, so check with your insurer or contact us at (604) 479-6677 and we will help you confirm.

How quickly should I book massage therapy after a car accident?

As soon as possible. ICBC pre approves treatment for the first 12 weeks after the collision, and early intervention is widely recognized as the most effective way to prevent acute injuries from becoming chronic.

Will my session be covered through direct billing?

We direct bill most major insurers and ICBC. If your plan accepts direct submission, you usually pay nothing or only a small co pay at the visit. Bring your insurance details and we will verify before treatment.

Which type of massage is right for me?

Your therapist will recommend an approach during your first visit based on your history and goals. Many clients combine modalities over time, for example RMT for clinical needs and hot stone for ongoing stress and tension management.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment incur a $50 cancellation fee. See our full clinic policy for details.
